Warm up the Borough
Energy efficiency measures for the residents of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
Scarborough Borough Council has joined forces with energy-saving and heating services company, J & J Crump & Son Ltd, to launch Warm up the Borough, a scheme which aims to help householders in Scarborough, Filey and Whitby make their homes warmer and more affordable to heat.
The scheme will see J & J Crump & Son Ltd installing energy efficiency measures into eligible homes for free, which could deliver savings of up to £460 per year on fuel bills for the householder.
Eligible households will have the work funded by the Government’s Energy Company Obligation. Recent changes to ECO mean that the council is now able to widen the qualification criteria of those eligible for help.
- Homes with an annual household income (after mortgage or rent) of £21,000 or less
- Homes in receipt of certain benefits
- Homes with EPC rating of E, F or G
- Homes with EPC rating of D and:
- A member of the household with a health condition made worse by the cold
- A member of the household over 70
- A member of the household is a Pregnant woman
- Householders have dependent children under 5 years old
Scarborough Borough Council Housing Manager, Andrew Rowe, said:
“Under the Warm up the Borough scheme, thousands of households that have a low income or have someone with a long-term health condition or are in receipt of benefits, will be able to benefit from a range of energy efficiency measures such as cavity wall insulation, party wall insulation, loft insulation, room in roof insulation and in some cases, replacement boilers or new heating systems. In the past, the qualification criteria for funding were really restrictive so we know that many households will have missed out on previous schemes.
We are committed to both reducing fuel poverty and improving the energy efficiency of housing stock within our borough.
Our agreement with J & J Crump & Son Ltd means thousands of people can look forward to living in warmer homes, leading to lower fuel bills, more disposal income and better health.”
